If general rule that the suffix "ish" means "like unto or characteristic of" holds--to be mawkish is to resemble a mawk? What's a mawk? What are its dimensions and substance? I want answers from the heart, not from Google.

To the best of my knowledge, a Mawk is a brightly colored hawk that engages in flamboyant courting dances that usually result in the female that they are pursuing regurgitating a half eaten worm onto them and telling them to “get bent”
