Supplication, Infelicity
Supplication- the action of begging for something humbly (often in the context of prayer)
Ex: He fell to his knees in supplication. “Please, lord, deliver me the strength to persevere, for last night I tooketh an L, but tonight I shall bounceth back, with your heavenly guidance”. Lyrics taken from Big Sean’s foray into the world of gospel style hip-hop albums: I Decided (To Accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior). If you were a fan of Sean Don’s corny lyrics before, prepare to be blown away by his new, even cornier lyrics, now incorporating messages from The Scriptures!
Infelicity- something inappropriate (often a remark)
Ex: He had lost his little league announcing job after carelessly letting out a stream of infelicities during an at bat in last week’s county playoff matchup.
“Here’s the pitch, and WOW! Swing and a MISS! That wasn’t even CLOSE! We know there’s a hole in your heart thanks to the congenital heart defect, but there must be a hole in your BAT as well! Good thing the doctors who operated on you after birth weren’t here to see that! They saved your life just for you to come up to the plate and CHOKE when it mattered most! There’s a reason they had you batting in the 9 hole! And, speaking of the 9 hole, that hole in your heart brought the total count of holes in your body up to 9! Alrighty folks, that’s two down, one left to go in the bottom of the 4th, top of the order due to bat next.”
