Sunday Story: Prevaricate
Prevaricate- to speak or act in an elusive, roundabout manner intended to deceive others
Ex: When confronted about the virus spreading throughout the public library’s computer system, Tristan had no choice but to prevaricate, although he may have accidentally revealed that he knew a little more than he led on. “Oh yea, the virus, I heard about that, but I’m not quite sure how it started. What I do know is that this particular virus is not typically a result of watching Hentai, which I, for one, would never dream of doing! Especially not at a renowned cultural institution such as this. Now me? I’m more of a book guy myself, I don’t really ever come here to use the computers. Do I find myself getting a little randy sometimes when reading a Murakami novel? Perhaps!... Oh, what was that? You want to know what I meant by that last sentence? Well, you see, that was merely an illustration of my feelings, I would never act on them, no, not in a million years! Not even if the cubicles were just private enough to encourage such behavior, nor if there were tissues and exfoliating hand cream conveniently nearby at the librarian’s desk… What do you mean how do I know that? How does anyone know anything, Mrs. Feldstein? Eyes, my dear, we all have them! No! No, Mrs. Feldstein, I will not come to the police station with you!”
