Regnant- having dominant influence at the present time
Ex: The regnant fashion trend seems to be dressing in a way that would most upset your grandparents. Either that, or wearing those hideous dangly cross earrings. Dudes who wear those need to be treated like biblical lepers and kept separate from the rest of society.
Categorical- explicit; unambiguous
Ex: I’m quick to make a categorical denial of any street folk soliciting donations. That is of course unless they woo me with the box of assorted chocolate bars. In that case, I’m financing their entire youth basketball team’s flight to Dallas. Make me proud, girls!
Dispassionate- not influenced by feelings or biased by personal involvement
Ex: Geoff made the dispassionate decision to move his mother in law into a nursing home. While the rest of the family were letting their feelings about grandma cloud their better judgement, Geoff was able to remain calm and rational as he signed the paperwork to upend his mother in law (age 63 with no signs of memory loss or difficulty living independently) and place her into an assisted living facility.
Think that Geoff, in the last story is my new hero. 😎
