Platitude- a cliché whose meaning has been lost due to excessive usage, giving the user a false sense of wisdom
Ex: The trail guide woke the Blevins family up with one of his trademark platitudes, “the early bird gets the worm!”. For the rest of the day, the Blevins family mapped out cliffs along the trail that would surely result in the trail guide’s death, were he to be accidentally pushed off of them.
Irascible- easily angered; hotheaded
Ex: The unruly bus riders loved to tempt the irascible driver by throwing acorns into his plumber’s crack. The name of the game was hibernation station. The goal was to store enough nuts in the driver’s chaps to last you through the winter whilst trying to avoid disturbing the slumber of the highly aggressive grizzly bear in the triple xl neon vest sitting in the front seat.
Harried- troubled by petty annoyances, people wanting things from you
Ex: She felt harried by the slew of nagging emails sent to her by her coworkers. When Pierre asked her if she had any intention of heading to Office Depot to pick up some toner for the office printer, that was the final straw. She bounded over to the elevator, rode it right up to the 12th floor, walked into the accounting department, strode malevolently into Pierre’s office, and stapled his ballsack to his ergonomic yoga ball desk chair.
wouldn't that pop the chair?
Yes, and potentially two other things.
