Pique- to stimulate; to excite
Ex: On the train to the city I was just minding my own business, scrolling mindlessly on my phone, until my attention was piqued by the loud debate a few rows back from me about who you would least like to chill with: deranged Pennsylvania prison escapee Danelo Cavalcante or any employee at a Spirit Halloween.
Bonhomie- friendliness; geniality
Ex: The false bonhomie with which he began his emails: “Happy Monday!”, “Happy Tuesday”, etc…made me sick to my stomach. Anyone who sends an un-ironic “Happy Monday!” message needs to take a long look at themselves in the mirror and think about what went wrong for them in life.
Auspicious- favorable; conducive to success
Ex: The old spice body spray in the air smelled like an auspicious sign: This middle school dance was about to get hot (lukewarm) and heavy (that’s just Martha and her hypothyroidism).
The ‘Happy Monday’ person is no friend of mine. They are one friend I am happy to jettison.
