Pillory- to expose to public ridicule
Ex: Local middle school gym and health teacher Gregory Shmeckle was pilloried by the middle school PTA after news surfaced that he, himself did not know what a tampon was really used for.
Saniya Gupta, 13, of Clarendon Intermediate School, said Mr. Shmeckle was visibly embarrassed when discussing the feminine hygiene products, and could barely squeak out the words, “this is some type of girl thing. It goes inside them and helps with…you know, woman stuff.” When Gupta asked for some clarification, Mr. Shmeckle referred Gupta to classmate Sarah Richardson, who he suggested, “had probably had her period already”.
Dylan Crabgrass, 12, who was in that same health class, also provided comment that when it came time for the banana condom demonstration, Mr. Shmeckle started giggling uncontrollably and told the class to bear with him, as he, “hadn’t really done this before.” When he couldn’t properly fit it on the banana, Mr. Shmeckle called up middle school football captain Ryan Lockyear to the front of the class, and announced, “Ryan here can show you all how it’s done, he probably has some experience, wink wink. Well, that is unless he doesn’t use these things, since he is a jock and all.” When Gupta again asked for clarification on what Mr. Shmeckle meant by that, the teacher responded by saying, “Well, Saniya, when a girl like, say, Sarah, goes to a party with a guy like Ryan, and some alcohol is involved, sometimes the whole concept of contraception flies out the window. Now I’m not saying this is right, but it happens. I’m just here to teach you about reality and what to expect in the next few years. Well, not you, Saniya. Nobody would go near you with a 10 foot pole! Kidding! I’m kidding, no need to look so shocked. You’ll probably develop into a decent looking woman. Just give it a few years for those child-bearing hips to form and you’ll be alright. What’s with that look on your face? Lighten up, sister! As for Sarah, those changes have clearly started to take hold, as some of your male classmates may have already noticed”.
