Patent- easily recognizable; obvious; evident
Ex: The patent discomfort on her face was plain to see. She had struck up small talk with the shop owner to be nice while her husband shopped, but now she was stuck in a rather one-sided conversation about the Lego Death Star model propped up in the display window. She fumbled around for questions. Anything, anything at all that could serve as feigned interest in this most virginy of pursuits. How many bricks were in it? No, now that she really couldn’t care less about. How long did it take to build? Eh, that was quite boring as well. After 30 seconds of painful, grating silence, she settled on, “So tell me, Egbert, if me and my girlfriends showed up to your house in Slave Leia outfits, and you had only a few pieces left to go to complete the replica, would you stop what you were doing to have a pillow fight with us? Or would you just put your head down and finish the model?”
She could almost see the Lego bricks being built up and then torn down in his head as he considered her question.
“It depends…I would have to ask Jabba how he feels about that one”
*He switches to Jabba the Hut’s deep, slimy voice*
“Jabba thinks you should complete your model. Jabba says stay steadfast in your mission. Do not be swayed by these scantily clad human women!”
*switches back to regular voice*
“Yea, I would totally just keep playing with Legos”
Mum and Dad would never let me have a Lego Death Star when I was a kid. Something I still hold against them even now.
