Nadir, Pellucid, Quixotic
Nadir- the lowest point; opposite of zenith
Ex: As the hiking expedition reached the mountain’s peak, the group’s spirits were at their nadir. Davis was wearing the same pants he had shit in 5,000 feet ago, Chelsea had to cut off one of her frostbitten pinky toes, and the last time Blake’s phone had cell service he had just received two messages from his wife, with the first one reading, “So, about me and Lance the hunky contractor…”. The second message had yet to load. Talk about a cliffhanger.
Pellucid- crystal clear; easily seen through
Ex: “Ramon, I see through your fake charm just like I see through your pellucid, chemical-tasting water!” said Brenda to Ramon Laguarta, CEO of Aquafina, a known hair-gel abuser with a taste for a strong cocktail and the tendency to get a little too handsy at the corporate holiday party.
Quixotic- unrealistically idealistic or optimistic
Ex: A while ago he had a quixotic vision of taking her up onto a hot air balloon, getting down on one knee, proposing, and then having the balloon land perfectly on the fine, white sands of the picturesque beach. But that was years ago. Long before the war. Long before hot air balloons were only used for military reconnaissance missions. Long before the arthritis had yielded his knees altogether unusable. Long before the beaches were rendered unsafe due to large amounts of heroin needles washing up on the shore. Long before his girlfriend had suffered those burns that left her face horribly disfigured and he had just about managed to keep their relationship intact, despite all feelings of physical attraction falling by the wayside.
