Innocuous, Avaricious, Inured, Lionize
Innocuous- harmless, not offensive
Ex: “Put on something innocuous, like I don’t know, maybe The Fray?” “Trust me bro, I got this” *Everyone in the coffee shop casts menacing glances in my direction as they hear the beginning of My Type by Saweetie blaring out from my laptop speaker*
Avaricious- having an extreme greed for wealth or material gain
Ex: I’m completely over him and his avaricious franchise-purchasing habits. You think he really cares about Chuck E.? Nah, he just wants the cheese.
Inured- became accustomed to (especially something unpleasant)
Ex: Growing up, parents always assumed we would become inured to foul language by watching rated R movies. What a silly little pleasant thought. I had been inured to curse words ever since I filled out my first MadLibs at recess in the 3rd grade, thank you very much. Every adjective was poopy, every verb was shitting, every noun was wee wee, without fail.
Lionize- to give a lot of public attention and approval to someone
Ex: Look what happened when we lionized Lizzo. It’s almost as if the pedestal that we put her on collapsed under her (massive) weight, what a shocker!
