Headlong- done quickly or in a rash manner

Ex: In her headlong peeling of the potatoes she sliced open her thumb. But that wasn’t what jolted her to attention. As she inflicted the wound, she looked around and realized that she was in a…soup kitchen? Jesus, Nancy- she thought- where has your edge gone? You used to be a certified badass rock star who took no shit from anyone. Now you’re…doing acts of service? She shook her head at the thought. Maybe it was nice for her to have some anonymity for a change. Plus, she had to admit that it did feel good to help out. She placed her peeled potatoes in a boiling pot as a homeless man sulked in through the kitchen door en route to the cafeteria. “Whoa! Is that actually you, Nancy Swankanski, the guitarist for Deranged Titty? You pissed on my face once at a concert in Atlantic City!”

Nancy just tried to focus on each individual bubble popping in the pot. Though she didn’t explicitly see them, the cold, judgmental stares cast unto her by the other volunteers pricked her face like a thousand tiny icepicks.

Ignoble- not deserving of respect; inferior

Ex: He sneered at the boy’s ignoble maneuver on the diving board, which resulted in a thunderclap of a smack against the water’s surface accompanied by a massive splash. What a buffoon, he thought. At the prestigious country club that he belonged to, the preferred method of entry into the water was via a textbook pencil dive that barely disturbed the glassy surface of the pool. Boy, did he pride himself on those tight, tight pencil dives. He thought about binding his feet to create an even more seamless point of contact with the water. He wondered what the other boys his age (peasants in his mind) were thinking about. It probably had to do with some microwaved freezer-burnt French fries from the snack bar. They would never understand the simple pleasure of sipping on an ice-cold canister of homemade gazpacho by the walkers-only lanes.
