The Washington Commanders have decided to change their team name to a more pro-Native American title after owner Dan Schneider arrived at the realization late Monday afternoon that it was not enough to merely have a name that takes a neutral stance on the plight of indigenous people in this country.
Marking a 180 degree turn around from their original name, the Washington Redskins, the team currently known as the Washington Commanders plans to rebrand to “The Washington Three Sister Farmers, Swift Foot Runners of the Forest” prior to the start of the NFL season in September.
When asked for his opinion on Schneider’s bold attempt at finagling some favor back from the Native community of Washington D.C., Thundercock Featherchest—the chief of the Pamunkey Indian Tribe—said, “I honest to god could not give less of a shit”. It seems as if tribal leaders are staying true to their original sentiment when polled on their feelings towards the team’s original name—The Washington Redskins—which is to say, caring a whole lot less about it than white people.
Snaketongue Widepenis, chief of the Piscataway Conoy Tribe, also weighed in on the issue, saying, “Our people have the highest rates of alcoholism and suicide, and some of the most understaffed and underfunded schools in the nation. Can we do anything to address any of these issues before worrying about a goddamn football team name? Newsflash Schneider, we watch lacrosse, not football, but if we were to watch your shitty team play it’d probably only serve to inflate our suicide rate”.
