Fawn- to try and win over by means of flattery

Harbinger- a person or thing that announces or signals the approach of another
Ex: Why stop at Punxatawney Phil? We should have other animal harbingers of certain weather patterns. Maybe if Sammy Shark’s dorsal fin is seen above water in early July it could mean that a tropical storm is on the way that will finally wipe Naples, Florida off the map once and for all. Everyone except for the residents of Naples would all be patiently, patiently waiting for Sammy to surface.
