Ennui- a feeling of lethargy and dissatisfaction arising from unemployment or lack of excitement
Ex: Contrary to what some right-wing media members would lead you to believe, he wasn’t all that thrilled with living stimmy check to stimmy check for months on end. He needed the payments to skate by, but the stagnancy and routine of it all left him with a sense of ennui. He should be out there doing something grand, like maybe a one-man show. He could play the keytar and the French horn while walking the dog with a Chinese yoyo and balancing on a ripstik. This was his issue, he didn’t want to do anything unless that thing was something extravagant, something that when slapped under his name on LinkedIn would practically beg his former high school classmates to click on his profile and think, “Craig? Glue-sniffing Craig? He’s headlining the Bellagio in Vegas this weekend?”. Instead, they couldn’t even find him on LinkedIn, and when you searched his name on google the first result that came up was, “Local high school student, Craig Carmichael, 17, of Ashbury, detained by police for huffing glue from brown paper bag outside of JoAnne Fabrics.” So, day after day, Craig sat around doing nothing. He had not one single cool talent or skill, let alone the ability to commingle them all into an act that people would pay real money to see. He could have spent an hour or two actually working towards developing some technical proficiency with an instrument, but internet porn was always available, and Craig had splurged on the top tier WIFI package, so 4K VR videos were barely losing any frame rate. Plus, a dispensary had just opened up in his town, and Craig had yet to find a strain that tapped into his natural creativity and work ethic. So far, every pre-rolled J he had gotten his hands on had just activated his primal urge to munch on white cheddar Cheez-It grooves and to watch YouTube videos where they tier-ranked every version of the NCAA Football video game.
I love this word. The first time I saw it I had to Google it to know how to say it.
