Disingenuous
Disingenuous- not candid or sincere; dishonest
Ex: She was being disingenuous. She knew that Kabuki theater performances traditionally involved all-male casts, with men playing female roles. But it had been her dream to star as an Oni as far back as she could remember. Ah, to reveal her womanhood while masquerading as a man-troll to upset the wealthy Japanese elite in the audience. She could already hear the guttural, “UGH” reaction from the crowd as she tore off her prosthetic proboscis, flicked some warts off of her forehead, and ripped off her tiger skin robe to unveil her true form. “Korera no warui yatsura o mitekudasaishe” she would say. This translates roughly to, “Take a look at these badboys!”. This kamikaze act would enrage the assemblage of aristocrats in the theater, who would point and shout, “Janete Jacksono! Janete Jacksono!” in response to this wādorōbu malfunction. She hoped the shouts of Janet Jackson would not quickly turn to accusations of her being a “Yamauba”, or monstrous female crone, but that was a risk she had to be willing to take, especially when performing in Nagoya, the “Philadelphia of Japan”.
