Deign- to stoop to; to do something that one considers beneath them
Ex: About once a year I deign to visit Burger King. This year “the trip” was a desperate foray into a shopping mall food court while attempting to kill time before I could check into my miserably dreary and understaffed Best Western hotel room. “The trip” coincided with a special needs support groups’ own trip (though probably a more frequent trip destination for these rural Coloradan Hills Have Eyes type folk) to Burger King. It’s a weird feeling to be the only man without down syndrome (questionable) in the Burger King line. It’s almost like the universe was trying to tell me something. No disrespect to the lovely, friendly folks waiting in the queue with me, it’s just that if I’m going to be putting hot Cheetos chicken fries into my mouth, it would be nice to glance over at the pickup counter and spot I don’t know, say, Steve Buscemi mucking a Whopper. That’d make me feel less embarrassed about the whole situation. Now that I think about it again, was that Steve Buscemi at the pickup counter mucking a Whopper? If I was going to lump any celebrity in with the group, it might as well have been the Buscem-dawg.
