Bane, Surfeited, Obdurate
Bane- a source of annoyance or harm
Ex: Jeff frisbeed his dinner plate across the diner into the Adam’s apple of an unsuspecting patron. Loud chewers had always been the bane of his existence.
Surfeited- consumed or done in excess, so much so that you do not want more
Ex: He was surfeited with food after the all-you-can-eat buffet. Coming out of his stuffed stupor, he soon realized that he was, in fact, at a build-a-bear workshop, making him the world’s largest build-a-bear. He walked home and placed himself on the shelf, where he remained for the rest of his life.
Obdurate- stubborn, unable to be swayed
Ex: Lenny was obdurate in his positions about climate change; he couldn’t be swayed. When the tsunamis began to strike the Long Island coastline, he chalked it up to the local Chinese fishing commune who he claimed “cast some of their oriental magic” upon the Atlantic. Lenny’s body was later found floating off the coast of Shanghai. His face was unidentifiable after months of decay from the sea water. The family that found him had no choice but to cook him in a traditional hot pot, for the beginning stages of earth’s heat death had long since wiped out any edible crops.
